News Producer – Core responsibilities

Coordinate and direct news staff to ensure a balanced and accurate newscast

Consult with senior producer on stories selected and material used for bulletins or programs

Attend editorial meetings

Pitch and develop original story ideas

Assign stories to journalists and anchors for scripting, voicing and editing
Review and approve all scripts for assigned stories to ensure they are aligned with the channel standards

Work closely with the creative department to explain the requirements for supporting graphics

Search and arrange guests for newscasts or programs

Run the newscast and calmly handle decision making in the control room
Crash breaking news

Interact with anchors and guests during broadcasts

Obtain legal and editorial clearances from the senior producer and editor in chief

Develop talent within the team by providing guidance and support

Produce packages for the digital platforms when needed

Other Duties

To be involved in the training and development of editorial staff and junior members

Perform additional duties and take on special projects as assigned

Excellent editorial judgment skills

Creative vision and plan for content

Computer and media asset management systems

Ability to develop multi-media production skills

Attention to detail and hard working

Knowledge

Fluency in English

Editing and shooting

Expansive knowledge of local and regional current affairs, history and newsmakers

Some positions will require expertise in specific fields

Experience

Minimum 3 years of professional experience as news producer

Experience of developing creative program ideas and of dealing with live and breaking news stories

Experience in social media and digital platforms is an advantage

Education

Minimum Bachelor degree in journalism or in a related field
