More Marine Services
We require experienced Marine technicians that maintain and repair a variety of marine watercraft.
Under supervision, they construct and repair boat engines, boat hulls (wooden, GRP or metal), propellers, rigging, masts, sails, piping systems and navigational equipment.
They also install and test sanitation and refrigeration systems, cabinetry, electrical systems, steering gear or other marine accessories.
Working under the supervision of a marine mechanic foreman or a Naval engineer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for cleaning, repairing, and maintaining all parts of the boat or vessel.
Reading through repair and installation orders to determine the material, time, and equipment required.
Scraping away old paint, barnacles, and debris from vessels if needed.
Removing and replacing rotted or rusted sections of the vessel’s hull according instructions. Constructing replacement parts using drawings, saws, and various hand and power tools. Testing engines, propellers, steering, and navigational equipment.
Mixing and applying paint, wax, and gel coats.
Liaising and consulting with the supervisor and other relevant professionals and vendors. Have in depth knowledge of the necessary supplies, tools and equipment parts.
Create needed replacement parts such as bolts or valves using metalworking equipment.
Follow the guidance and instructions from marine mechanic foremen or naval engineers and man repair teams or aid other workers to fabricate / install / repair marine equipment and piping systems.
Regular inspection, repair and testing of marine mechanisms, as well as replacing valves and bolts.
NECESSARY SKILLS
The Marine Technician should demonstrate great hand-eye coordination and should be able to follow written and verbal instructions. They must demonstrate a responsible and careful behavior towards their work in order to achieve high work quality, prevent injuries and equipment damage. They additionally should have solid manual dexterity and be physically fit. These individuals must be self-directed, organized and able to work with and cooperate with other workers as well, and they should have solid repair skills. In addition, marine technicians must have solid written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in English.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ability to stoop, crouch, pull, push, reach, hear, near vision, kneel, talk, stand, grasp, walk and lift up to 50 lbs is required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or other similar education programs of mechanical, electrical, maritime or marine in orientation.
Proven experience with tools and equipment used in marine maintenance, ability to read and understand technical manuals, good verbal and written communication skills are required.
A minimum of 3 years of documented experience at repair yards, boatyards, shipyards, onboard vessels or docks is needed for the position of the marine technician.
Referrals are compulsory.
This experience should include installations and/or repairs to the electrical and mechanical equipment of boats and marine crafts, including diesel engines or other marine equipment.
