3.      COURSE ATTACHMENT

Water Resources Authority, Kisumu, Kenya(Attachment) 3rd June 2022-3rd September2022

·         As a water quality control attaché at the Water Resources Authority, I had the opportunity to develop and apply a range of chemical methods and instruments to ensure the safe use of water. One of my primary tasks was to evaluate the quality of water samples collected from different sources. I tested the samples for various parameters such as pH, alkalinity, hardness, chloride, and sulfates. I used various instruments such as pH meters and titrations to measure the concentrations of these chemical parameters. I also monitored the levels of pollutants in the water samples using chemical indicators. Another key task was to assess the efficacy of water treatment systems. I monitored the efficiency of the systems by testing the raw and treated water samples for chemical parameters such as turbidity and chlorides. I used turbid meters and conductivity meters to measure these parameters. I also conducted regular laboratory tests on the water samples to ensure that they met the required standards. I tested for contaminants such as bacteria, heavy metals, and pesticides. I used a range of testing methods such as spectrophotometry, chromatography, and microbial assays. I was responsible for the calibration and maintenance of the instruments used in the laboratory. I regularly checked the accuracy of the instruments and adjusted them as necessary. I also provided advice and guidance to personnel on the use of the instruments and safety protocols.
