JOB DESCRIPTION:
Ø Provide direct patient care and serves as a clinical resource in the delivery of patient care.
Ø Rapidly identify the patients with urgent, Life Threatening condition at Triage.
Ø Triage the client by Canadian Triage and Acuity Score in the Cerner System.
Ø Assess complex patient needs/situations and in determining appropriate interventions; reassess patient needs and responses to care, treatment and health education provided.
Ø Develops implements, evaluates, revises and provides input to patients’ care plan of care and provides care according to plan.
Ø Administers medication and therapies in a safe, timely and effective manner by applying the seven rights of medication administration and aseptic technique.
Ø Rapid assessment based upon chief complaint and complete visual physical assessment and to obtain information and identify the priority.
Ø Categorize the patient priority according to complaint and oriented and acuity score using first, second, third, fourth and fifth priority when needed.
Ø Performs clinical documentation that reflects the application of the Nursing Process, including discharge planning and patient/family education.
Ø Attends to emergency/crisis situation calmly and effectively.
Ø Identifies cardiopulmonary arrest and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) competently without delay.
Ø Coordinates/collaborates with providers of patient care within the delivery system for effective and timely delivery of care.
Ø Identifies patient/family education needs, plans teaching and learning activities, and provide patients/family/significant others health education.
Ø Adheres to infection control and environmental care standards and practices.
Ø Assists and participates in the Performance Improvements activities aimed to improve patient care outcomes.
Ø Assumes responsibility for patient staffing and scheduling and appropriate personnel and material utilization.
Ø Provides and promotes the development of clinical skills, professional guidance and fosters.
SKILLS PERFORMED IN EMERGENCY CARE UNIT
Ø Experienced in CPR (Cardio pulmonary resuscitation), Oxygen Therapy, I.V. Cannulation, Ryles tube insertion, ABG Sampling, Urinary catheterization, Bladder irrigation, blood transfusion, preparation of emergency drugs, emergency trays, surgical wound and emergency dressings.
Ø Efficiency assisting in emergency procedures likes Endo tracheal tube intubation & Extubation.
Ø Making early nursing diagnosis and Implementation of nursing care plan to prevent further complications.
Ø Assisting with various lifesaving procedures like Defibrillation, Intubation, R.T. insertion.
Ø Performing various procedures like E.T. Suctioning, taking ABG samples and other investigations (Blood, Urine, Sputum culture etc.).
Ø Preparing the unit for emergency CPR and other lifesaving procedures.
Ø To check the emergency equipment kept near the patient, their safety and working order.
Ø Maintain accurate, timely and legible records.
Ø Time management is crucial in this job. Along with triage.
Ø Involving in case discussions and presentations in the unit.
